Royal Patron Visits in 1956

Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Visits in 1956

There was a very warm welcome for Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother on Wednesday 21 March 1956 when she visited Benenden Hospital.

Queen Elizabeth had agreed to be the Patron of Benenden Hospital in 1952 and remained so until her sad loss in 2002.

On her way to the Sanatorium, the Queen Mother stopped off at Cranbrook School before making her way through the lanes to our hospital. The Queen Mother spent time talking to patients and taking a tour of the new extensions to the hospital since her last visit six years earlier.

The Queen Mother was presented with a bouquet from Student Nurse Valmar Daniels outside the newly extended Nurses Home.
