The Hospital Shop
Records suggest that a shop existed on site for some years. The oldest was built of corrugated iron and collapsed when a doodle-bug landed nearby in 1944.
The ‘New Post Office’ was opened in 1947 and was situated at the stage end of the Concert Hall, now the Board Room. The entrance looked up the hill towards Peek. Mr Les Carter can be seen in the Post Office serving a nurse.
Most of us remember the Post Office and Shop built in 1956 that is now part of our Learning and Development Department. Some of the items used in the shop, such as tills and scales are still in the archive today.
Look carefully at the photographs (below) and you can see some of the museum items in the shop. If anyone remembers the names of the staff working or visiting the Post Office then please let me know.
